Below is an overview video and detailed walk-through guide on how to easily level Fishing 1-600. In this World of Warcraft leveling guide I will be showing players the easiest and most profitable way to level fishing as you relax and enjoy the sunny day. Expect leveling fishing 1-600 to take an average of 16 hours but produce 4,500 gold or greatly more depending on your luck, server's economy, and where you level fishing.

  • Overview: The easiest and most profitable way to level Fishing 1-600 guide.
Estimated Time: 16 hours for an average player.
Suggestions: While fishing, I suggest every player have a decent amount of empty bag space, be repaired, + to fishing pole, lures, blare some music, and most importantly, have fun!

I also suggest leveling Cooking with Fishing if you need to level them both up. Check my Cooking 1-600 Leveling Guide for an easy way to level Cooking.

First, talk with any guard in a major city to find a trainer. Head to the Fishing trainer and learn Apprentice Fishing. You then need to grab a fishing pole and some lures. It's important to always have lures so you have a better chance of catching fish instead of junk. If possible you want a fishing pole with plus fishing as well. Listed below are some trainers and good fishing poles.

WoW Fishing Guide 1-600 Leveling: Fishing Skill Levels 1-375

  • From 1-375 I suggest fishing in Northern Barrens or Wailing Caverns if you're a lower level.
  • Theoretically you could fish 1-600 anywhere you choose and even in a major city like Orgrimmar, Stormwind, or Dalaran, but I prefer to make some gold while I level any profession. Fishing for [Deviate Fish] can be quite a money maker especially for low levels. For higher levels, 85 or above, fishing pools in Pandaria can be very profitable. You could of course work on several achievements for fishing as well which is a very good idea if you're not in a rush and plan to do them later anyway.

  • Even though you can begin fishing at level 5 and max fishing at only level 10, if you plan to fish up Deviate Fish you'll want to be around level 20 so you can easily kill the mobs in the area and aren't bothered by them much. The above Oasis locations are filled with [Deviate Fish] that sell for around 1g a piece so great gold for leveling a profession or being a lowbie. So rather than catch random crap fish everywhere that might be hard to sell, instead you can catch [Deviate Fish] that are used to make [Savory Deviate Delight] food which transforms you into a pirate or ninja. I also suggest this area because there are so many pools to fish from. You basically just keep circling the different Oasis lcoations and fishing out of all the Deviate Fish School pools until you reach skill level 50-ish. One cool thing that happened back in patch 3.3 is you no longer catch junk when fishing out of any pool. This means that even if you have level 1 fishing you will catch the pool's fish instead of junk which is great for making gold while leveling. Before, while leveling, you would pretty much catch junk on every cast for 100 skill points or so. At 50 pop on a Nightcrawler lure and you can simply fish in the open water without getting any junk. This will be quicker but won't guaruntee a Deviate Fish catch like the pools will. Therefore, you will make less gold but level faster. Alliance on a PvP server may want to fish inside Wailing Caverns to avoid any confrontation with Horde.
  • While you're leveling you should also find random boxes from time to time. Inside these boxes can contain a [Weather-Beaten Journal that will teach you fish tracking. It requires fishing skill level 100. This allows you to see schools of fish on your mini-map much like tracking nodes for Mining or Herbalism. If you don't find it while you're leveling you can always go to any area where there are a lot of wreckage pools and fish it up pretty easily. STV and Ashara seem to have a lot of these. I found mine from the first pool and first box I fished up in STV which wasn't even a wreckage pool.
  • It's hard to say how long it will take you to reach 375 but make sure to train fishing every time you max it or are within 25 skill points of 75, 150, and 225. For Alliance you can head to Rachet and take the boat to Booty Bay to learn the next rank from Myizz Luckycatch. Once you hit 300 and 375 the easiest place to train is in your faction's major city like Orgrimmar or Stormwind. Either hearth there or grab a port from a high level Mage.

WoW Fishing Guide 1-600 Leveling: Fishing Skill Levels 375-525

  • Alright, so after reaching 375 it's time to head to either Uldum or Twilight Highlands.
  • If you're too low for Cataclysm zones, then you can stick with the Barrens or whatever spot you like even including a major city. The first Cataclysm zone I'd like to suggest is Uldum. This zone is filled with pools of fish that contain tons of very high selling fish needed for leveling cooking but in MoP will not sell as well or as fast as they did back in Cataclysm. I like to start from the top of the zone farming the crocs while I fish the pools down the river into the ocean. From there, I sometimes go up the beach a time or so and go back up the river. Very relaxing place to fish and I absolutely love the architecture and design of the zone. I've listed a map below to help you see the different fishing areas.
  • Uldum Fishing Map

  • Another great place to fish in Cataclysm is Twilight Highlands. This place is pretty awesome for fishing and just like Uldum contains tons of pools filled with high level fish used for some of the best buff food at level 85 used by players of all types.

WoW Fishing Guide 1-600 Leveling: Fishing Skill Levels 525-600

  • Once you've reach 525 and are level 85 or above, you can do your leveling in Pandaria. Again you could start from level 1 fishing in pools and level that way. I suggest do exactly that since it will be the easiest and give you the most amount of gold for your time spent. Any of the zones in the Pandaren lands can help you level.

WoW Fishing Guide 1-600 Leveling: Final Notes

  • I can't give a solid estimate on how long it will take you to level up Fishing but expect it to take around 16 hours or significantly longer. Because it's so long, try fishing between BGs, raids, or while you wait for your friends to log in. You can also do the fishing dailys to help you along. Watching TV, talking to friends, or blaring some music can also make it a lot more fun than just staring at your computer screen if you plan to straight powerlevel 1-600.
  • As a bonus, you can also expect to make around 4,500 gold or greatly more depending on your luck, server's economy, and where you level fishing.
