First, talk with any guard in a major city to find a trainer. Head to the Fishing trainer and learn Apprentice Fishing. You then need to grab a fishing pole and some lures. It's important to always have lures so you have a better chance of catching fish instead of junk. If possible you want a fishing pole with plus fishing as well. Listed below are some trainers and good fishing poles.

WoW Fishing Leveling 1-450 Guide: Fishing Skill Levels 1-375

  • From 1-375 I suggest fishing in front of Wailing Caverns in the Lushwater Oasis.
  • Theoretically you could fish 1-450 anywhere you choose and even in a major city like Orgrimmar, Stormwind, or Dalaran, but I prefer to make some gold while I level any profession. Fishing for [Deviate Fish] can be quite a money maker especially for low levels.

  • Even though you can begin fishing at level 5 and max fishing at only level 10, if you plan to fish up Deviate Fish you'll want to be around level 20 so you can easily kill the mobs in the area and aren't bothered by them much. This Oasis is filled with [Deviate Fish] that sell for around 1-2g a piece so great gold for leveling a profession or being a lowbie. So rather than catch random crap fish everywhere that might be hard to sell, instead you can catch [Deviate Fish] that are used to make [Savory Deviate Delight] food which transforms you into a pirate or ninja. I also suggest this area because there are so many pools to fish from. You basically just keep circling the Oasis fishing out of all the Deviate Fish School pools until you reach skill level 50-ish. One cool thing about patch 3.3 is you no longer catch junk when fishing out of any pool. This means that even if you have level 1 fishing you will catch the pool's fish instead of junk which is great for making gold while leveling. Before, while leveling, you would pretty much catch junk on every cast for 100 skill points or so. At 50 pop on a Nightcrawler lure and you can simply fish in the open water without getting any junk. This will be quicker but won't guaruntee a Deviate Fish catch like the pools will. Therefore, you will make less gold but level faster. Alliance on a PvP server may want to fish inside Wailing Caverns to avoid any confrontation with Horde.
  • While you're leveling you should also find random boxes from time to time. Inside these boxes can contain a [Weather-Beaten Journal that will teach you fish tracking. It requires fishing skill level 100. This allows you to see schools of fish on your mini-map much like tracking nodes for Mining or Herbalism. If you don't find it while you're leveling you can always go to any area where there are a lot of wreckage pools and fish it up pretty easily. STV and Ashara seem to have a lot of these. I found mine from the first pool and first box I fished up in STV which wasn't even a wreckage pool.
  • It's hard to say how long it will take you to reach 375 but make sure to train fishing every time you max it or are within 25 skill points of 75, 150, and 225. For Alliance you can head to Rachet and take the boat to Booty Bay to learn the next rank from Myizz Luckycatch. Once you hit 300 and 375 the easiest place to train is in Dalaran from Marcia Chase. Either hearth there or grab a port from a high level Mage.

WoW Fishing Leveling 1-450 Guide: Fishing Skill Levels 375-450

  • Alright, so after reaching 375 it's time to head to Northrend.
  • If you're too low for Northrend then you can stick with the Barrens or whatever spot you like even including a major city. I suggest a few spots for fishing in Northrend and one of them is in Wintergrasp. These little bodies of water are great for fishing up the most popular fish used in Fish Feasts and other high level buff foods. The down side to Wintergrasp though is you won't have a chance at getting the tight little Sea Turtle mount. To have a chance at finding this, you'll need to fish out of any school of fish found in Northrend.

  • A good place for this is in the small lake in Dragonblight since the Dragonfin Angelfish are great for making +40 agil and strength buff foods. By the time you reach 450 you should have a good chance of finding the Sea Turtle but I've heard stories of people fishing for days and not finding it. I found mind within 10 minutes of fishing out of a pool ever in the Grizzly Hills rivers. I guess I'm lucky.

WoW Fishing Leveling 1-450 Guide: Final Notes

  • I can't give a solid estimate on how long it will take you to level up Fishing but expect it to take around 14 hours. Because it's so long, try fishing between BGs, raids, or while you wait for your friends to log in. Watching TV, talking to friends, or blaring some music can also make it a lot more fun than just staring at your computer screen.
  • As a bonus, you can also expect to make around 2,000g or more depending on your luck and server.
