Tarou's Weekly WoW Report Episode 16! 8/08/2010 | Cataclysm Beta News

In Cataclysm Beta news, some more screenshots were released throughout the past week and I'm most interested in the Skywall ones. Definitely a place I want to check out pretty soon with how much of the design is asthentically appealing and the interesting areas. It also introduces some new NPC models bringing a new flavor to the game that has yet to of existed in previous expansions. All in all some great screenshots below.

• Moving along to other Cataclysm Beta news, some big changes coming to the way patches are applied and while the forums are mostly complaints about the new system, it's really going to improve any patch day for all players. No longer will you have to wait until the patch is fully applied. What this new launcher does is basically allow you to play the game once all the important stuff is loaded. I had to download 15 gigs and was already able to play at just a few percent. When I logged in the world appeared to be streamed and the graphics were a bit slow loading but was fully playable. I did crash when I tried to change the resolution but other than that everything went fine. The launcher will show a color of red, yellow, or green indicating how far along the process is. Red is likely meant to be unplayable but later on when I reloaded the launcher it turned red and played fine. All in all it's a great addition and looks like it just needs a few bugs sorted out before it goes live.
• Switching it up a bit to ingame Cataclysm changes, I found tons of random small changes that are sure to improve the playing experience for all players. First up, I noticed in some zones the map now indicates where you can find a flight master. I also found they added a tool tip to items you can buy in stacks by clicking shift. My friends who have played this game forever never knew how I bought 20 of item with one click. Another thing I found was now on the Battleground queue panel a new button shows 'WARGAMES'. This could be a filler but I'm curious what it will be for.I also stumbled upon some new Cooking and Fishing dailys that now give a skill up in addition to the standard award. I really like this concept.
• Alright moving along, a big addition coming with Cataclysm is Reforging. Reforging will basically allow you to change some of your rating bonuses on gear to something else. For instance I think I'm good on crit so change some out for mastery rating instead. This works on every gear slot item and even trinkets. If you don't like the changes you've made, you can always 'Restore' it back. This is definitely one of my favorites since I'm all about gear customization and gems themselves just never seemed to cut it. See what I did there.
• Moving along to some specific questions from viewers. Some people wanted a better look at a building I passed by in one of my Cataclysm videos. Well here it is, an upfont view of Sulfuron Spire. Hmm, I wonder if Ragnaros is sleeping somewhere in there. Let's see what else. Oh yeah, are your bags new ones from Cataclysm? No, they can be bought in Wrath from Haris Pilton in Shattrath for 3,000g. Some other people also asked if there were any new bags, mounts, or level 85 epics were out and nope, not yet but I did run into this mount and wouldn't doubt if a new mount will share it's design which will be pretty cool since this kodo looks awesome.
• Some other neat changes are the addition of multiple mini-map tracking and easily understandable icons. Now when you want to track something, it will display the icon on the mini-map. You can also select multiple things to track. This does make me wonder if it will finally be possible to easily track say Herb and Mining nodes by tracking them at the same time.
• Keep in mind tons of details and numbers are still being ironed out and anything can change before the final Cataclysm expac ships.

• Alright, checking out Blizzard news, a new security tip is out asking that all players keep their Battle.net account password seperate from their e-mail password. This is definitely good advice and I'd take it even two steps further by having an e-mail only for Bnet as well as get an Authenticator. So everyone go now and make a new e-mail for just Bnet and have different passwords plus order an Authenticator or download one to your iPhone or Android for free. 'I got hacked' has become a more common phrase than Chuck Norris jokes. Which is definitely not good.
• Finally I'd like to end this Tarou Weekly WoW Report answering a few questions you guys and girls have asked me over the last week.
• Q1. How do you get in the beta?

  A1. Give your soul to Blizzard. No just kidding. I'm still getting asked this a lot and all I can tell you is it's random selection for the most part so check your Bnet account from time to time.

• Q2. Can you tell me why my addon is bugging out?

  A2. I'm sorry but, those questions are best for the addon maker and not me. Try check the place you downloaded it from for more info.

• Q3. Can you add me to Real ID?

  A3. I'm sorry but, I reserve that for people I know in real life only.
