Below is an overview video and detailed walk-through on how to easily defeat the Icecrown Gunship Battle, the third encounter in 10m Icecrown Citadel. This guide will give an overview of the fight and all players' roles.

Icecrown Citadel 10m: Icecrown Gunship Battle: Overview

  • The third fight in Icecrown Citadel takes place on the factions' flag ship Orgrim's Hammer if you're Horde or Skybreaker if you're Alliance. This is by far my favorite encounter in the game to date. The concept and visuals are just sick. I'd wipe just to do it over again. The first thing you'll need to do is have your entire raid pick up a jump pack from the Goblin on board. Make sure you put this on and drag to your action bar somewhere before you get in combat. In the Icecrown Gunship Battle encounter your main objective is to deal more damage to the enemy ship than damage you take. You don't actually fight any boss here. Depending on class, gear, and player abilities you'll want 2-3 healers and atleast 2 tanks.

Icecrown Citadel 10m: Icecrown Gunship Battle: Strategy

  • Before beginning the fight you'll want to decide who will be the defending party, boarding party, and gunners. It's ideal to have range as defending since the enemy's boarding party has a sergeant with a nasty bladestorm. Having range as defenders also allows them to dps the enemy ship's crew between enemy boarding partys. All raid members need to make sure they avoid damage from Rockets. Basically if you see the AoE target on the floor, move away from it. Two of the range should be on the gunners the entire encounter when the guns aren't frozen. I'd pick the two lowest dps. To damage the enemy ship you use the two guns on the gun ship. The guns have two abilities, Cannon Blast button one and Incinerating Blast button two. Each time you fire Cannon Blast or number one you gain heat. Once you reach near 100 heat you'll then want to fire number two, Incinerating Blast. If you go over 100 the gun will overheat and lock down for 5 seconds and drain all the heat. So it's ideal to stack it up and expend it quickly. When they're guns are frozen they can help out with enemy boarding partys and crew members. The enemy's boarding party consists of one regular enemy crew members and one sergeant. A tank needs to pick these up and range should focus target dps the mobs down as quickly as possible.
  • Once the guns on your gunship are frozen or the mage is out, you'll want to have your boarding party immediately use their jump packs to get onto the enemy ship. It's very easy to use the jump pack but you might want to mess around with it a bit before the encounter begins to get the hang of it. One of the reason I say all members should have a jump pack equipped is in the event someone on the boarding party dies like our guildy who says he jump packed into the sky but we can see in the video he just walked off the edge. The tank should jump first and quickly occupy the enemy's commander. The melee or dps portion of your boarding party, will want to focus kill the mage immediately. The longer you're on the ship, the riskier it is for your tank. The commander applies a stacking impale dot that eventually does more damage than can be healed. Your tank and healers gear will decide how many stacks are safe for your tank. After killing the mage you can take out other crew members with a priority on Rocket Artillery users but keep in mind your risking losing your tank to the impale stacks. After the boarding party's objectives are met, they need to quickly jump back over with the tank last and help how ever they can by killing the enemy boarding party's members until the next mage is out.
