Cataclysm - WoW Jewelcrafting Gold Guide: 12,000g per day in pure profit! - Vid

Below is an overview video and detailed walkthrough on how to use Jewelcrafting to make an insane amount of gold everyday in Cataclysm. In the guide and video I will show what is working in Patch 4.0.3a, Patch 4.0.6 - Cataclysm and what is not. This will give you a general idea of what you should try to focus on to get the most gold making potential possible out of your Jewelcrafting profession. I make around 12,000g per day in pure profit spending an average of 30 minutes to an hour prospecting and cutting gems/metas. Always be sure to test your server's economy first before sinking a lot of gold into this. Please enjoy this Cataclysm - WoW Jewelcrafting Gold Guide and if you have any questions or feedback, please post them in the comments below or on the forums.

Cataclysm - WoW Jewelcrafting Gold Guide: Overview & Oldschool Rings/Necks

Jewelcrafting Gold Guide SQ

In this Jewelcrafting Gold Making Guide, I'll be covering several ways to make gold with Jewelcrafting that should fit anyone's budget. If you think you don't have the gold to spend on something, just scale it down to meet your budget. Simple division goes a long way. Besides some gold, you'll need to have Jewelcrafting leveled decently. If you need help with that, check out Jewelcrafting Guide 1-525 Leveling for a fast, efficient, and easy way to level Jewelcrafting. You should also check Mining for a great profession to go with Jewelcrafting.

  • Suggested Addons:

    Auctioneer
    Auctionator
    Auction Profit Master (formerly QA3)
    Postal
    Selljunk

  • Alright, now that the initial prep is out of the way, you can start banking with Jewelcrafting. We'll first be looking at Wrath uncommon rings for disenchanting and vendoring. To get started you'll need some Eternals and uncut uncommon green gems for mats. Depending on your server's pricing, you'll want to make either the Shadowmight Ring if Eternal Shadows are cheaper or Stoneguard Band if Eternal Earths are cheaper. For my server, Stoneguard Bands are not worth it usually but I'll make them for this video just for kicks. Next, get some uncommon uncut gems like Chalcedony, Huge Citrine, Bloodstone, and Sun Crystal to make the lowbie Wrath uncommon rings. Get whichever is cheapest.

Below is a list of lowbie Wrath uncommon rings and necks to create for vendoring.

    [Bloodstone Band]
    (2 x Crystallized Earth, 1 x Bloodstone)

    [Crystal Chalcedony Amulet]
    (2 x Crystallized Earth, 1 x Chalcedony)

    [Crystal Citrine Necklace]
    (2 x Crystallized Earth, 1 x Huge Citrine)

    [Sun Rock Ring]
    (2 x Crystallized Earth, 1 x Sun Crystal)

  • Now when making 400 plus rings it can be very time consuming trying to manage them all especially if you are limited on bank and bag space. Get Auction Profit Master, the current replacement for Quick Auctions 3, to make this easy. After you add the addon to your addon folder for WoW, log back into the game and type /apm config. Then click 'Auto mailer' and add you alt's name. Check this like 10 times to make sure you typed it correctly or else you'll auto mail to some random person. Which would suck. Next, click the name you just added, scroll down to items and add all the items you want to auto mail. They have to be in your bags so I'll make one of each to be able to add them. Next, I open the mailbox pane, click the 'Send Mail' tab, and then the big red Auto mail button at the top. Finally, I make my rings and they are automatically sent to my alt. I can go afk, get a drink, some cookies, or mess around with some other random videogame while I wait. Pretty cool right.
  • I then swap over to my alt and select all and mass return them to my main. Now that I've got all the lowbie uncommon rings and necks back, I dump them into my bags for vendoring. Notice I don't have any Stoneguard Bands or Shadowmight Rings. They will be disenchanted since they aren't worth vendoring. You could disenchant these as well but it's too time consuming for how much gold you'll make in my opinion. It's up to you really though. To make sure the Wrath lowbie uncommon rings and necks are worth vendoring, the mats should cost less than the 3g 14s 78c vendor price. 2.5g for mats is my limit but even that seems like too much so try and stick around 2g. Now vendoring these could be a pain as you see here I have to click and click and click some more but instead I'll show you how to make it a joke. Get the addon Sell Junk or one similar from curse.com. Then type /selljunk to bring up the options menu. Then just simply drag the item you want to add to the add box. Then click 'Sell Junk' at the top of the vendor pane and poof, it sells all your rings without clicking so many times. But that's not good enough for me. It seems to have a default safety setting so it won't sell more than you can buyback. I don't care about safety so I'll remove the setting by unchecking 'Sell max. 12 items'. Now that looks awesome and saves a ton of time and clicking. This addon can also be used in a lot of other useful ways like vendoring grays while farming or leveling.

Wrath Lowbie Rings x 330 vendored netted:
    +1,038g 77s 40c in vendor gold
    - 544g 50s in mats
    -----------------------------
= +494g 27s 40c in net profit (very worth it)

  • Next, I get the disenchanted Stoneguard Band and Shadowmight Ring mats from my mailbox to list on the Auction House. These are old school Wrath mats but still have high popularity.

Shadowmight Ring x 180 disenchanted netted:
    Greater Cosmic Essence x 47 @ 9.5g each (446.5g)
    Infinite Dust x 458 @ 1.8g each (824.4g)
    Dream Shard x 4 @ 50s each (2g)
    +1,272.9g in net sales
    - 1,170g in mats
    -----------------------------
= +102.9g in net profit (waste of time)

Stoneguard Band x 97 disenchanted netted:
    Greater Cosmic Essence x 26 @ 9.5g each (247g)
    Infinite Dust x 247 @ 1.8g each (444.6g)
    Dream Shard x 3 @ 50s each (1.5g)
    +693.1g in net sales
    - 776g in mats
    -----------------------------
= -82.9g in net profit (waste of time)

  • I list the Enchanting mats for 12 hours in the largest stack possible while listing some singles as well to add some variety.

Cataclysm - WoW Jewelcrafting Gold Guide: Prospecting Pyrite Ore

  • Alright, now it's time to prospect some ore. For this, I like to use a simple macro like the one below & turn 'Auto Loot' on by checking it.
Go into your interface, select controls, and check autoloot. This will autoloot the items into your bag.
    Jewelcrafting SQ

    #show Pyrite Ore
    /cast Prospecting
    /use Pyrite Ore
    /use Elementium Ore

Thanks to Naemirione for this macro suggestion
  • If you want to prospect ore other than Pyrite or Elementium, just add the other ore to the macro. I'll be starting with Pyrite Ore that ran me 175 gold a stack. Pyrite Ore can net you 1-3 Volatile Earth, 0-2 rare gems, and/or some uncommon gems. Just depends on your luck really.

21 stacks of Pyrite Ore netted:
    Volatile Earth x 156 @ 19g each
    Carnelian x 15 @ 18.5g each
    Alicite x 20 (10 x Alicite Pendant [ 10 uncommon ])
    Nightstone x 15 @ 53g each
    Hessonite x 16 (8 x Hessonite Band [ 2 rare 6 uncommon ])
    Jasper x 11 (11 x Jasper Ring [ 2 rare 9 uncommon ])
    Zephrite x 9 @ 72g each
    Amberjewel x 6 @ 88g cut / 42g uncut
    Dream Emerald x 9 @ 124g cut / 42g uncut
    Demoneye x 7 @ 97g cut / 54g uncut
    Ember Topaz x 5 @ 104g cut / 34g uncut
    Inferno Ruby x 6 @ 126g cut / 88g uncut
    Ocean Sapphire x 2 @ 54g cut / 24g uncut

  • Now that all the Pyrite Ore is prospected, I'll list the Volatile Earth for 12 hours in stacks of 10 and singles. For uncommon gems, I save Jasper, Hessonite, and Alicite for ring and necklace making, Zephrite for the Jewelcrafting daily quest and cooldown, Nightstone for selling on the Auction House, and Carnelian for making gems, making fist weapons for disenchanting, or selling uncut depending on the price.
  • When making the uncommon rings and necks, you have a chance to proc a rare quality which can sell very nicely. Just like with the Wrath rings I setup my APM addon to auto mail my alt all the uncommon rings and necks.
  • Next, I get the uncommon rings and necks disenchanted.

    Hypnotic Dust x 64 @ 13.7g each
    Greater Celestial Essence x 10 @ 49.5g each
    Lesser Celestial Essence x 1 @ 19g each
  • I then toss the Enchanting mats up on the Auction House for 12 hours, in full stacks with a few singles for variety, and undercut any competition.
  • Finally, I cut all the rare gems into popular cuts. I've listed the most popular cuts below but keep in mind the most popular might not always give the most profit.

Most Popular Cuts for Most Servers - Listed in Order of Popularity:
    [Brilliant Inferno Ruby] (red)
    [Reckless Ember Topaz] (orange)
    [Solid Ocean Sapphire] (blue)
    [Bold Inferno Ruby] (red)
    [Delicate Inferno Ruby] (red)
    [Purified Demonseye] (purple)
    [Rigid Ocean Sapphire] (blue)
    [Quick Amberjewel] (yellow)
    [Fractured Amberjewel] (yellow)
    [Veiled Demonseye] (purple)
    [Mystic Amberjewel] (yellow)
    [Puissant Dream Emerald] (green)
    [Lightning Dream Emerald] (green)

  • Each cut costs 3 Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens that you can get by doing the JC daily. Now you can of course sell the gems uncut if you don't have any cuts and they do sell fairly quickly as you can see in my video. But the cut price compared to the uncut price has a pretty large margin so cutting them if you can is well worth it. Even if you don't have cuts, get someone who does like a guildy, friend, or ask in trade chat.

Cataclysm - WoW Jewelcrafting Gold Guide: Prospecting Elementium Ore

  • After prospecting Pyrite Ore I move on to Elementium Ore to get an idea of which is better to focus on. Most likely though the supply of Pyrite Ore will be too small and you'll have to supplement with Elementium Ore prospecting or vice versa. I have 47 stacks of Elementium Ore that cost 75 gold per stack. Elementium Ore can prospect into rare gems and/or some uncommon gems. Just depends on your luck really.

47 stacks of Elementium Ore netted:
    Carnelian x 35 @ 18.5g each
    Alicite x 35 (17 x Alicite Pendant [ 2 rare 15 uncommon ])
    Nightstone x 36 @ 53g each
    Hessonite x 22 (11 x Hessonite Band [ 1 rare 10 uncommon ])
    Jasper x 34 (34 x Jasper Ring [ 2 rare 32 uncommon ])
    Zephrite x 34 @ 72g each
    Amberjewel x 15 @ 88g cut / 42g uncut
    Dream Emerald x 9 @ 124g cut / 42g uncut
    Demoneye x 8 @ 97g cut / 54g uncut
    Ember Topaz x 11 @ 104g cut / 34g uncut
    Inferno Ruby x 12 @ 126g cut / 88g uncut
    Ocean Sapphire x 8 @ 54g cut / 24g uncut

  • Just like with the prospected Pyrite Ore, uncommon gems, I save Jasper, Hessonite, and Alicite for ring and necklace making, Zephrite for the Jewelcrafting daily quest and cooldown, Nightstone for selling on the Auction House, and Carnelian for making gems, making fist weapons for disenchanting, or selling uncut depending on the price. With any profession though you have to be flexible. When the daily is for Nightstone, Jasper, or Zephrite, I don't make any into rings or necks and instead list them raw on the Auction House. The main reason for this is, you'll make a lot more more gold that way and saves tons of time.
  • Next, I get the uncommon rings and necks disenchanted.

    Hypnotic Dust x 129 @ 13.7g each
    Greater Celestial Essence x 14 @ 49.5g each
    Lesser Celestial Essence x 2 @ 19g each
  • I then toss the Enchanting mats up on the Auction House for 12 hours, in full stacks with a few singles for variety, and undercut any competition just like I did with all the other Enchanting mats.

Cataclysm - WoW Jewelcrafting Gold Guide: Cata/Wrath Meta Gems

  • Next, I take a look at meta gems. Getting cuts for Cata metas costs 4 Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens so you have to decide if you think a rare gem cut would be more worth it or not. Most of the time it is once you have a cut of every color for rare gems or are looking for something with less competition. Metas won't be as cutthroat with undercutting and take a lot less effort to maintain so great for casual players who aren't on a lot per day. They do tend to bring in less gold though as you can see in the video and below. I paid 127g for each uncut meta and can sell the cut ones for 164g and 230g which is ok but not ideal. If you have Alchemy and are trans spec or know someone who is, make your own metas by using the uncommon gems from prospecting.

Most Popular Meta Cuts for Most Servers - Listed in Order of Popularity:
    [Ember Shadowspirit Diamond]
    [Chaotic Shadowspirit Diamond]
    [Austere Shadowspirit Diamond]
    [Destructive Shadowspirit Diamond]
    [Fleet Shadowspirit Diamond]

    Cataclysm Metas x 24 netted:
    Fleet Shadowspirit Diamond x 11 @ 230g (2,530g)
    Austere Shadowspirit Diamond x 13 @ 164g (2,132g)
    + 4,662g in net sales
    - 3,048g in mats
    ----------------------------
= +1,614g in net profit for two days or
= +807g in net profit per day (decently worth it)

  • Next, I check out Wrath metas since I have a cut for everyone. If you don't have any meta Wrath cuts you can pretty much ignore what I'm about to say. If you do have some cuts, they are still making a lot of gold and account for around 1,400g of my daily income as of late. Just like with Cata metas, if you have Alchemy trans spec or know someone who does, more than likely that will be the cheapest way to get uncut Wrath metas. I'll pretend I don't and buy some from the Auction House. Just looking at this screen you can see the profit potential. The uncut costs 19g while the cut metas are 124g each. After buying the uncut gems, I check the cuts I have and see how much each are going for. I then restock, change, or relist any I need to. It's super easy and doesn't take much time at all. As for which sell the best, in Cataclysm there isn't really a list of best sellers because it's different than Wrath. People are buying these for twinks, while leveling up, or because they don't have Cataclysm. Therefore, I suggest making one of each and replacing them as they sell.

    Wrath Metas x 44 netted:
    Skyflare Diamond x 23 @ 118g avg (2,714g)
    Earthsiege Diamond x 21 @ 98g avg (2,058g)
    + 4,772g in net sales
    - 910.5g in mats
    ----------------------------
= +3,861.5g in net profit for two days or
= +1,930.75g in net profit per day (insanely worth it)

  • Wrath Metas should start to die down the closer we get to Patch 4.0.6. From there, sales will be slow. Only the most patient sellers should continue in my opinion after Patch 4.0.6.
  • Finally, I do the Fire Prism daily cooldown. This is almost never worth it but I do it anyway for kicks. I have made 40 Fire Prisms at an average of 310 gold each for a total of 12,400 gold and only have gotten 5 Chimera's Eye. Everything made would have sold for around 11,200 gold for a total net loss of 1,200 gold. Definitely a waste of money until things change.

Bringing a grand total for prospecting to:
    + 25,412.1g in net sales
    - 7,200g in mats
    ----------------------------
= +18,212.1g in net profit for two days or
= +9,106.05g in net profit per day

    Fleet Shadowspirit Diamond x 11 @ 230g (2,530g)
    Austere Shadowspirit Diamond x 13 @ 164g (2,132g)
    + 4,662g in net sales
    - 3,048g in mats

    + 4,772g in net sales
    - 910.5g in mats
    ----------------------------
= +3,861.5g in net profit for two days or
= +1,930.75g in net profit per day (insanely worth it)

  • So, what do all these mathy numbers mean? Well, Wrath Stoneguard/Shadowmight Rings are a waste of time along with the daily Fire Prism for most players and servers, prospecting Elementium and Pyrite Ore with or without cuts and making rings is pretty awesome in profit, Wrath metas are insanely profitable, and Cata metas are decently profitable. Expect to spend 30 minutes to an hour a day on Jewelcrafting.
  • Cutting out all the waste of time stuff, the grand total in two days was:
    +35,884 87s 40c in net sales
    -11,703g in mats
    -----------------------------
    = +24,181g 87s 40c in two days
= +12,090g 93s 70c per day with 30 minutes to an hour of effort. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

Cataclysm WoW Jewelcrafting Gold Guide: Final Suggestions and Tips

  • For gems and enchanting mats, the peak time is from 6pm-8pm during the week, and the weekend is pretty spread out from 2pm-8pm. Tuesday & Wednesday seems to be the peak day for gem and enchanting mats sales.

This is most likely due to the fact people typically gear up on Tuesday & Wednesday for the week's PvE and PvP content. New PvP gear from Arena points etc.

  • Once you get the hang of how much you sell begin purchasing mats during the weekend; they are typically the cheapest on the weekend. The main reason for this, is most players aren't actually raiding on the weekends and have a lot more time to gather mats. With the abundance of mats comes the simple economic rule of supply exceeding demand which leads to lower prices. This doesn't mean 100% of the time they will be cheaper on the weekend but instead it makes it more likely. After you get a feel for mat prices you can purchase them throughout the week for the lowest prices.
  • Checking on mats everyday will get you familar with who sells what. Pay attention and take a look at who is selling mats all the time and message them to sell directly to you at a discount. This is especially easy to do with Pyrite Ore and Elementium Ore. This will save you big on the craft costs. I have countless farmers listed on my friend's list who I deal with regularly to get the cheapest price possible. When making videos though, I use the Auction House so I can give all you the most accurate numbers possible.
  • Finally, World of Warcraft isn't just about making gold and really should be the smallest part of your playtime. I hope this Cataclysm Jewelcrafting Gold Guide will help you get rich in World of Warcraft but at the same time free up farm time so you can actually enjoy the game for what it is meant to be; fun! So, don't sit at your computer 24-7 just to make gold. Go out, raid, PvP, whatever, just make sure to have fun (^_^)v.

Good luck and I hope you enjoyed this guide. If you have any suggestions, comments, or feedback, please make a post in the comment section below or on our forums.
